Challenges are thinking beyond short political cycles to tackle issues such as food security, energy, climate change. We need to be smarter about the way we use space and about building and managing relationships.

This is Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty an is protected, but also people live and work here, so there are infrastructures.
Public bodies involved are: public planning authorities, regional development bodies, municipalities and environmental protection agencies.
Also: local residents, visitors, interest groups (leisure activities), local cultural preservation groups.
Ile de France
Between 10 and 30km around Paris it is a peri-urban greenbelt (40% agricultural).
Regional interventions started in the ‘90s (preserve forests, encourage farmers to stay on land)
Regional Council initiates actions and involves other actors (natural parks, chambers of agriculture and social society)
South Moravia
multi-stakeholder example for transport in Czech Republic (connecting also to Austria and Slovakia).
Flanders/Nord Pas de Calais (www.bipsweb.eu)
BIPS EU funded project that involves belgian and french partners with the approach “what is happening in your backyard”
transnational platform

bilingual actions for education and awareness
thematic approach: ecological garden, new managing systems, habitats.
